The Jean McCarthy collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between McCarthy and Norma McCarthy during the autumn of 1983. In the interview, Jean McCarthy, an Associate Professor of Physical Education at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota from 1962 through 1983, discussed the reorganization of Mankato State College in the early 1960s. He explained how and why the school shifted from being an institution devoted to the training of educators to becoming a college concerned with interdisciplinary programs and content specialties. This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
